Physician Care
Residents
of Thompson House benefit from the convenience and expertise of an
on-site physician who makes regular visits to Thompson House. Each
floor of our Home has a doctor assigned to see residents on a specific
day each week and in addition, there is a doctor on call 24 hours
a day.
All medical consultations and treatments are provided in a manner
that respects the individual's right to either accept or refuse treatment.
Nursing Care
Nursing care is provided 24 hours per day and Health Care Aides provide
daily personal care under the supervision of registered nursing staff.
Treatments, medications and ongoing assessments are provided by the
dedicated registered nursing staff who seek medical advice from physicians
as the resident’s condition warrants. Physiotherapy
At Thompson House we believe that restorative care is the cornerstone
of an improved quality of life. Physiotherapy services are provided
in-house, free of charge, 4 days a week to help us provide goal
oriented rehabilitation that meets specific health care needs and
improves the resident’s level of independence. The on-site
Physiotherapist can also arrange for assistive devices such as,
canes, walkers and wheelchairs as needed.
Chiropody, Dental Services and Ophthalmology
On-site Chiropody services are provided on a fee-for-service basis
every 6 to 8 weeks by a qualified chiropodist. Residents may choose
to arrange their own dental and eye care or they may book an appointment
with the on-site dental team or Ophthalmologist. Please note, O.H.I.P.
covers the cost of eye examinations but does not cover the cost
of eye glasses.
Appointments
On site appointments can be booked through the nursing department
and assistance is also provided to residents who would like to visit
a health care professional at another location. Families are encouraged
to accompany residents and provide transportation to and from appointments
outside of Thompson House. When a family member or friend is not
available, an escort can be arranged through the nurse with related
costs billed to the resident.
