Day Programs

Day programs provide participants with a wide range of opportunities for social interaction, physical activity, physiotherapy and improved nutrition while allowing respite opportunities for caregivers. The Don Mills Foundation for Seniors offers two day programs designed to meet the individual needs and interests of our members.

Both day programs are located in the same inviting setting at our Community Services facility (Don Mills and Eglinton) but they often offer distinct activities tailored to the abilities of the participants. One program is designed to provide services to individuals with Alzheimer Disease or a related cognitive impairment and has specially trained staff to provide care and therapeutic recreation. The other program is designed to meet the needs of the physically frail senior (perhaps due to a stroke, Parkinson's Disease, osteoporosis). The emphasis of this program is to maintain and enhance physical capabilities while enabling social and educational opportunities. The Day Programs, in partnership with Physiotherapy Associates, is pleased to offer a comprehensive, physiotherapy program. This program is covered by OHIP and is integrated into daily activities for clients who request the service.

Each day begins with a nutritious snack followed by an intellectually stimulating program such as current events, trivia or a biography-type activity. Exercise such as Yoga, group exercises, or walking are offered before a hot, nutritious lunch is served in the newly decorated dining room. Afternoon activities may consist of an entertainer, music or games such as bowling, bingo or shuffleboard and then the day ends with a light snack and social time. On some occasions, special outings to places such as the St. Lawrence Market, Riverdale Farm or the Woodbine Casino are planned for the group. All activities and outings are outlined in the monthly newsletter.

Day Programs operate Monday to Friday from 9:30a.m. to 3:00p.m. but extended hours may be arranged if needed. Transportation services can be provided to and from the program to clients residing in our local area and individuals requiring wheelchair accessible transportation can receive assistance in making arrangements with TTC Wheel-Trans.
